Japanese female cuteness is different from westerners.
Being not strong, making mistakes and having less capabilities can be cute for Japanese women. In short, being childish in western mind is considered cute in Japanese one and it is called kawaii type.
I heard many complaints from westerners, especially feminists, that they were about to encourage those kawaii type girls to be stronger or make more efforts in Japan. However, kawaii girls are appreciated by Japanese women and even some Japanese men.
As a matter of fact, feminism is not yet well spread in Japan. Japanese women tend to count on men (especially financially) much more than western women do.
In the worst case, some pretend as if they are weak and not hungry at all in front of men. They don’t eat so much at a party for example, and eat a lot at home or after the party when there are women only.
Putting on such a show occurs in South Korea a lot as well; but men are rarely fooled, they just pretend buying it.

As I mentioned above, they prefer rely on men than to be independent. To be a housewife without working even as part time job is a kind of their goal. As a matter of fact, according to the government analysis in 2016, approx. 30% of women out of singles want to be hull-time housewife.
Some may ask your job to guess your financial status. If you get so many questions about your job such as your position, tasks, name of company and how long you have worked for it, it’s definitely an investigation to know all about your bank account. Or they may be simply interested in you.
There are some dating agencies that seek good partners for singles in Japan. And if you wan to date someone who has high salary, you have to pay for more introducing fees to the agencies.
Some never care about money at all, especially, those from countryside. They tend to care about honesty, sincerity, politeness, punctuality and sense of value. At some point, it’s even harder than having enough money for some guys.
It always depend on women though, I just want to share what might happen to you and hope it helps you understand Japanese women.
Japanese girls will probably ask you those questions.
“What am I to you?”
“Are we in relationship?”
This is because they are anxious if you guys are serious or not. Be aware, Japanese women are sometimes very straight to the point while they are basically conservative and shy.
In other words, those questions can be a big chance to confess them that you want to be her boyfriend. Sometimes even though you have been on a lot of dates and feel comfortable around her, and in your mind, you already consider to be in a relationship, it will not be clear for her as long as you haven’t asked the precious question “will you be my girlfriend?”
