Who am I? – Bilingual blog

4. Experiencing the world

Having to drop out of university and give up on my dream was a hard blow. I then needed to think about what I could do instead.

But what I later realized is that, so far, I had always thought about what I should do but not what I want to do.

What I should do was not even related to what I really want to do. It was based on what Japanese society sees good.

“What do I want to do?”

I continually asked myself over and over.

At the same time, feeling of powerlessness and disappointment, hatred of social unfairness, negative thoughts that education is just money and effort will be never paid off etc., all came up in my mind.

I also tried job hunting in Japan. But Japanese companies generally want only fresh graduates. They, especially big companies, tend to not to hire dropout students. There was no chance to have an interview for me.

“…..well, I will just leave Japan then.” I thought.

I felt like that the stage that needs me is not Japan, but the world.

And then, my first destination was Zambia.

I lived there for 2 years teaching sciences. Also I visited many places in and out of Zambia. There were many wonderful landscapes which made me fall in love with travelling. And before going to Zambia, I didn’t know English at all. But local people taught me not only English but also Nyanja and Bemba (local languages) gently and patiently, thanks to them, I could get translation jobs.

In Zambia, everybody becomes family easily; once you visit their home, you’re in. They are so welcoming. Giving local food which is called Nshima is part of their culture. This experience taught me that getting involved with locals is quite exotic and interesting.

4. What do I like doing?

My favorite hobbies are travelling, martial arts and investment.
I’ve been to over 30 countries and visited almost all the continents. My favorite one was Finland because I could see the “Green curtain” in the sky. It was incredibly beautiful. The next aurora could be in Canada or South Pole.

By the way, I named myself “World Citizen” on this site, because I am just one of many citizens in the world. That’s what I realized as I met many kinds of people around the world.

I have practiced Karate for over 4 years at the dojo and I’ve been doing kick boxing for 3 years. While I travel alone, Karate helps me a lot. I encountered danger several times in my adventuring life. Luckily, I am still alive today.

A note about investment; instead of trying to change parents as when I was kid, I decided to be more realistic and get out of my own misery by learning about money and investment.

I have learnt quite a few tips which I would like to share through my blog, hoping it will help you and maybe surprise you! 😉

Thanks for reading.
