6 Ways of Yukata Date

4. Photo shooting

photo shooting

Even if there are no special occasions, you can still enjoy yukata date anywhere you like.

Some couples take photos as if they are super models. Don’t be shy, it’s for you guys not for professionals.

It is fun to find nice hidden spots where match with yukatas. It may be in front of a someone’s gates, narrow street or restaurant.

I found a video that two girls are photo shooting each other in Asakusa of Tokyo.

Although Asakusa is located in Tokyo, capital city of Japan, there is a certain area where you feel it like a little Kyoto. For photo shooting, that’s good enough to take tens of photos.

For example, a stone bridge in front of Yogodo (see a map below) in Tokyo  is one of the most popular spots among Instagramers.

5. Onsen

onsen street

Onsen means hot springs.

When it comes to hot springs, you make a picture of snowy winter in your mind.

However, as a matter of fact, it’s very available in all seasons.

There are many Onsen villages around Japan, such as Atami of Shizuoka, Beppu of Oita, Kusatsu of Gunma, Hakodate of Hokkaido, Nasu of Tochigi. Check “10 Japanese hot springs you shouldn’t miss!” by Rakuten Travel.

Take note that yukatas are kind of too hot in summer.

Especially, big popular cities are always very hot from end of June to  August. You will probably sweat a lot unless it’s in the evening of countryside.

Hence, my favorite yukata date season on onsen street is September or October. It’s not as hot as summer festival and less mosquitoes.

For those who live super far from Onsen villages, there is a solution. Take a look.

You can enjoy hot spring at home. In this case, it will be no longer “yukata date” but I haven’t met any couples who mind “naked date” at home. Bon appetit!

6. Traditional Restaurant

Ryokan room

To be fair, living in Japan is busy. Many couples don’t have enough time or energy to try all those above.

Therefore, at least you should try dinner with wearing yukatas at traditional-look cafe or restaurant (categorized Kominka style or “Kominkafu (古民家風)” in Japanese) .

For example, Old House Cafe Rengetsu (蓮月) in Tokyo is one of the real traditional restaurants.

There are also cozy old style restaurant at traditional hotel called Ryokan. You don’t have to stay over ryokan but need to book for dinner in advance.

Some strict ones refuse it, however, many of them accept it. What you need to do is to get your yukata on and grab a taxi.

If you would like to look for ryokan in Japan, you can try a web site below.

Rakuten Travel is one of the largest travel company and available in English. You can change the language on its site.

I hope you would try and enjoy one them one day.
